Adult (18+) Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer naturalists lead nature hikes for students of all ages during the spring and fall field trip seasons, from March through June and September through early December. Field trips typically take place on weekday mornings between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and training sessions are offered in late winter and early fall.  Prospective volunteers may also learn by shadowing more experienced hike leaders. The only prerequisites are a love of nature and working with children – we’ll teach the rest!

The next training for elementary and secondary field trips is going to be in March 2027. However, you can always start off by shadowing our hikes during the field trip season and learn on the job! Apply to volunteer below!

Greeters are often the first face and voice of the Conservancy.  They answer phones, welcome visitors to the nature center and perform clerical tasks during one of two shifts each workday: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 12 to 3 p.m.  Greeters may volunteer weekly or bi-weekly, or they may fill in, when needed, as substitutes. Training is typically held once per year, or on an as-needed basis.

Special Conservancy events typically take place evenings and weekends and sometimes require volunteer assistance. Duties may include setting up tables and chairs, assisting with parking, greeting and/or checking in guests, serving refreshments, leading activity stations, cleaning up and more.

Drop-in Wednesday Gardening:

During the growing season (approximately April through October), this group meets every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., weather permitting. No registration or experience is required; just show up and join the crew!  The Conservancy provides gloves, tools and training, and volunteers bring whatever comfort items they may need (e.g., hat, sunscreen, water bottle).

Habitat Restoration Group:

Habitat restoration groups help remove invasive plants, replant and maintain native plant areas, restore stream banks, perform erosion control and trail maintenance, and more. The Conservancy provides gloves, tools, training, and volunteers bring whatever comfort items they may need (e.g., hat, sunscreen). Closed-toe shoes, long pants, long sleeves and water bottles are required.

Habitat groups meet during the spring and fall on select Tuesdays, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. No registration or volunteer application is required; just show up and join the team!  This activity is weather-dependent and will be canceled in the event of rain.

Periodically, the Conservancy has opportunities for those with specialized talents – photography, videography, graphic design, woodworking and other crafts, organizational skills, repair and maintenance and more.  Let us know your talents on your volunteer application, and we will reach out when we have a specialized need!
