Program Full: Gone Fishing

August 11, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy…Fish are jumping and the cattails are high!”
Learn how to teach your kids to fish – and help them do it! No experience necessary. Children of
all ability levels between the ages of 8 and 15 are welcome. Fishing regulations, ethics, safety
and techniques will be covered before fishing by an expert Jimmy John Shark. Font Hill Wetland Park pond is a restricted
fishing area. Adults (16 and over) may help their children fish, but may not fish themselves
without a license. Led by Susan Sanger of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources along with
Woody Merkle and Rol Anders from the Conservancy. Bait, rods and reels will be provided.

Susan Sanger is with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as the Aquatic Resource Education Department’s Angler Education Coordinator.  She works with youth delivering programs called “Hooked on Fishing” as an introduction to fish and fishing and as a springboard to future interest in recreational or professional fishing, and the conservation and stewardship of both our land and water resources in Maryland.  Susan also leads many Teacher Educator programs including “Sunfish and Students” and “Trout in the Classroom,” which are both ‘raise and release’ programs for 3rd-12th grade teachers.  Details about the MD DNR’s aquatic education programs or how you can host your own “Hooked on Fishing” program can be found at:   http://dnr.maryland.gov/ccs/Pages/are.aspx

Registration required by August 4th, no walk-ins. This program will take place at Font Hill Park. Specific location will be sent to all who register in advance of program.  In case of rain please check your email.
