Nope, it’s not Christmas in July. Though these blobs look like snow or frost, this slime mold, shot by Bonnie Ott last July, likes it hot and damp. Slime molds are beneficial species that decompose wood and feed insects. Some molds even contain compounds that fight cancer. The molds are sometimes brightly colored, usually orange, pink, red or yellow, and creatively named, “dog vomit slime mold” or “scrambled egg slime mold,” for instance.
