Lately, visitors have spotted birds wearing jewelry on Conservancy grounds. Not to worry, bluebirds with colorful bangles on their ankles and long trains on their tails aren’t investing in bling. A University of Maryland Baltimore County graduate student, Alan Reich, is tracking the bluebirds to study their nesting and flocking behavior. He has a federal bird banding permit, fancy tracking radios and soft hands to catch the birds so he can attach bands and trackers. “It is wonderful to have places like this for research. The meadows here are bluebird paradise,” Reich said. If you see a bird with a colored band, report the location to Reich to help his studies.
