When Mina Hagan was in college in Pittsburgh studying biology, the only animals she saw were pigeons, she said. Without animals or green spaces, she felt deprived, so once she graduated, she decided to tend the Conservancy’s creatures. First introduced to Ranger the barred owl as a young summer camper, Hagan has now been feeding and caring for our critters for nearly two years. A biology lab teacher at Howard Community College who is applying to physician assistant school, Hagan said she has learned so much at the Conservancy, and not just about Torope the terrapin (at right with Mina). “I’ve learned the animals’ personalities. Plus the people are welcoming and friendly,” Hagan said about volunteering. She has even started leading field trip hikes. We’re so grateful to have the help of a people person and an animal person. Thanks Mina!
